Another Snow Day + Snow Day Activities for the Kids
Share
I feel like snow days are childhood magic.
Okay you might be over them by now... we've gotten a lot of snow this year!
BUT snow days can be a surprise pause from the usual routine. Keeping the kids entertained (and off their screens) can be a challenge. We're in it together!
Here are some creative and exciting ways to make the most of another snow day.
Outdoor Adventures
-
Sledding Fun – Find the nearest hill and grab some sleds, tubes, or even a makeshift sled (a sturdy piece of cardboard can work in a pinch!).
-
Snow Art – Fill spray bottles with water and food coloring to let the kids create vibrant snow paintings OUTSIDE. They can unleash their inner artists on the snowy canvas. And you don't have to clean up the mess!
-
Scavenger Hunt – Hide small toys, painted rocks, or nature items around the yard and send the kids (and even the dog) on a winter-themed scavenger hunt.
-
Snowball Target Practice – Set up a target using an empty bucket or draw one in the snow and see who can hit it with the most snowballs. (This may cause a fight so beware lol)
Indoor Activities
-
Snow Ice Cream – Mix fresh snow with condensed milk and vanilla extract for a tasty winter treat. We used to do this as kids and we didn't di3... Is it still safe? Maybe??
-
Cozy Movie Marathon – Pick a winter-themed movie like Frozen, Happy Feet, or The Polar Express, and cuddle up with blankets. Make a Fort for extra fun.
-
Baking Fun – Let the kids help bake cookies, decorate cupcakes, or make warm cinnamon rolls together.
-
Pajama Dance Party – Put on some upbeat music and have a fun dance party right in the living room.
Learning Through Play

-
Science Experiments – Freeze bubbles outside, watch salt melt ice, or make a snow volcano using baking soda and vinegar.
-
Build an Indoor Obstacle Course – Use pillows, blankets, and furniture to create a fun and safe obstacle course for the kids to crawl, jump, and climb through.
-
Write a Snow Day Journal – Have the kids draw or write about their favorite part of the snow day to create a special memory book.
-
Puzzle and Board Game Time – Pull out board games, card games, or puzzles for some friendly family competition.
Ending the Day on a Cozy Note
After all the fun, wind down with a warm bath, comfy pajamas, and a relaxing bedtime story. Snow days are a wonderful opportunity to slow down, connect, and create lasting memories with your kids. Whether indoors or out, there’s always an adventure waiting on a snowy day!
What are your favorite snow day activities? How did you make the most of this wintery mix! ❄️☃️
